A little trip down Abbey Road…through Athens, GA

Wednesday, September 1st, 2010 by Adam

Took a little trip up to Athens on Friday night to go to a concert with the family. Ended up going to the Melting Point. Those of you UGA Alum definitely know about the Melting Point but if you have never had a chance to pay a visit, it is worth it. It is a great atmosphere and the food is pretty good. I had a burger and they know how to do burgers right!

This is defintely my type of venue. For me, I like to have a table where I can see and hear the band pretty easily and have the option to chill at the table or get up and rock out. At the Melting Point, there is a bar area for chilling and lounging and then attached is a more open air part of the restaurant with a stage and then room in front of the stage for both a dance floor and some tables. There is also a second level that overlooks the stage and dance floor area if you don’t want to be right in the middle of the action.

If you are ever going to see a show there, by tickets in advance. The place gets packed out pretty early if there is a decent act. A Beatles tribute band by the name of Abbey Road Live was playing there that night (my mom is a Beatlemaniac so she was nice enough to get us tickets). Now there are a lot of Beatles tribute bands out there but I am partial to the later Beatles stuff and these guys cover it all from Sgt. Peppers to Abbey Road to Magical Mystery Tour. These guys don’t dress up like other bands do, they put it all into the music. They play the songs you can sit back and jam to as well as the songs where you can get up a go crazy to. I tried to take some video and audio of the show but it did not turn out so well. If you are a Beatles fan, I recommend checking these guys out. There is a rumor floating around that they may be playing one of Spiral Entertainment’s Spring events - but we all know about rumors.
